Downtown Pittsfield… It’s Alive!

October 21, 2022

MassDevelopment’s Transformative Development Initiative (TDI) and Downtown Pittsfield’s Transformative District Initiative Partners will present Downtown Pittsfield… It’s Alive!, a Halloween Festival, on Friday, October 21, from 4 to 8 pm. It’s Alive will include activities for all ages, vendors, live music, performances, games, crafts, and an after-hours Zombie Pub Crawl.

There will be a Kids’ Fun Zone on the St. Joseph Church Lawn, 414 North Street, from 4 to 6 pm and all activities are free. Attractions include games, bouncy house, face painting, crafts, and activities from the Berkshire Museum, Berkshire Athenaeum, and the Flying Cloud Institute. Slater from Live 95.9 will be broadcasting live from the Fun Zone. The Kids’ Fun Zone is sponsored and led by volunteers from the Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center, and the bouncy house is donated by Carr Hardware.

There will also be a free Kids’ Treasure Hunt sponsored by CozQuest from 4 to 8 pm. Kids will follow a map and scan QR codes on a smartphone to claim Halloween treasures at every downtown stop. You must visit cozquest.com to play.

From 4 to 8 pm, there will be a Night Market and live music from Jack Waldheim on Dunham Mall, 100 North Street. 15 local vendors will be offering jewelry, clothing, candles, art, Halloween gifts, and more for sale. Vendors include 413Shirts, Auntie Janet’s Gifts (Crochet Wearables & Collectables), BerkshireSci Biscuit Co., Duncan St Design Co, Fandom Forge by Sean Spring, Kenzie’s Essentials, Made by Sarah Rose, Righteous Rags, Shire Fire Candles, THANKYOUSEAN, The Abundant Witch, The Berkshire Pine, The Blog Bus, and the Unabinner. Additional Vendors at Witch Slapped, 78 North Street, include Elevate & Infuse and Frost Road Organics (Brooms).

There will be live performances at Persip Park, 175 North Street, featuring Sample The Cat, Opal Raven Cirque, and The Funk Box Dance Studio from 4 to 8 pm; and a Witch Slapped Craft Pop-Up at Framework, 437 North Street, for which reservations are strongly recommended (witch-slapped.com/reservations).

Musician LI will perform live on Dottie’s outdoor patio at 444 North Street, and inside, there will be free mask making with artist Diane Firtell. LI is a New York-based artist and performer whose original music combines storytelling elements of Americana and rhythmic stylings of Funk to create a gritty-sweet sensation that can only be described as Urban Folk. There will also be pop-up performances from The Funk Box Dance Studio.

Hot Plate Brewing Co. will host a Pop-Up Tasting from 4 to 8 pm at Barrington Stage Company’s Boyd-Quinson Stage (30 Union Street); and there will be a “Tattoo”, Face Paint, and Tarot Parlor at the Hot Harry’s Outdoor Patio, 37 North Street.

From 4:30 to 7:30 pm, the Mana Crypt Gaming Center will host a free spooky gaming session at 33 Dunham Mall with new games to be played every half hour.

At 6:15 pm, all are invited to watch a free screening of Beetlejuice under the stars at Palace Park, 122 North Street, sponsored by Jodi and Paul Tartell. Please bring your own chairs. Snacks will be available for purchase from Crosswalk Coffee and others.

From 5 to 7 pm, a professional photographer will be taking pictures for free in front of spooky backdrops at the Wright Building (247 North Street). If you are in costume and would like to be entered into the It’s Alive online costume contest, you must have your picture taken then. Online Voting for best costumes will begin October 25 and will run through October 31. A link to voting will be at downtownpittsfield.com.

If you want to enjoy a night out at It’s Alive! without the kids, the Berkshire Family YMCA’s Kids Night Out offers a safe, trusted place to drop off the kids for pizza and group fun from 6 to 8 pm; free for members of the YMCA; $8 for non-members.

Following It’s Alive, from 7 pm to midnight, there will be a Zombie Pub Crawl. Crawl locations are to be announced.

As part of It’s Alive, there will also be online voting for best decorated windows in downtown from October 21 to October 31. More details on how to vote will be announced at downtownpittsfield.com.
