SUMMARY:Let It Shine! Unveils New Mural “Harvest of Hope” by Jahna Rae
DESCRIPTION:Mill Town Foundation and Let It Shine! Public Art Partnership is proud to announce the unveiling of a new mural by artist Jahna Rae. The mural\, titled “Harvest of Hope\,” is an 18 by 80-foot fruit market–inspired work that honors the history of the Morningside neighborhood.\nA community unveiling celebration will take place on Tuesday\, September 23\, from 4–5 p.m. at 250 Tyler Street\, Pittsfield (rain date: Friday\, September 26). This free\, family friendly event will feature remarks from the artist and community partners\, complimentary apple cider and donuts\, and games and activities for all ages.\nInspired by the site’s history as one of Morningside’s earliest fruit markets\, Rae’s mural transforms that legacy into a vivid\, dynamic work of art that both celebrates the neighborhood’s roots and enlivens its present. “I feel like this mural is sentimental to me now that I’ve become a mother and I’m trying to ensure that my son grows up to be a good man\, the type of man that leads with not only integrity\, honesty and kindness\, but also a softness that the world needs\,” says Rae. “This way\, he will be more likely to instill that in his future family. This is how I think we can heal the world.”

SUMMARY:Katunemo: We Are America Too
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to announce the opening of We Are America Too — The Journey Continues. This exhibition brings together 30 artists — regional voices and those of immigrant experience — united in expression to celebrate the values of freedom and belonging. \nFor us\, freedom means uplifting those who have always been by our side — our LGBTQ+ and BIPOC neighbors and art makers — whose presence and imagination help shape the spirit of this place we call home. These visionaries hold multitudes but above all they are human and dream weavers. Many must carry the weight of today’s political and social struggles — but all of us can stand together in trust and mutual support. 💜\nCome celebrate our stories and our resilience. The creativity that binds us together — because freedom lives in the ways we choose solidarity and belonging. 🌎✨ \nSpecial thanks to all the artists\, volunteers\, @my_tdi and @lovepittsfield for helping us to create this space for everyone.

SUMMARY:Rhythmscape: SíncoPaz\, Raíces y Ritmos (Roots & Rhythm)
DESCRIPTION:At the final Sunday\, September 21 session\, enjoy a free interactive event\, where you can build your own instruments to use in collaborative music-making and dancing. \nWhat happens when rhythm becomes a language of belonging?\nSíncoPaz\, Raíces y Ritmos (Roots & Rhythm)\, is a new community-based music project that invites people of all ages and backgrounds to create sound together. Part workshop and jam – and definitely a celebration – SíncoPaz is less about performance and more about what emerges when we listen and respond to find resonance with one another. SíncoPaz explores the power of síncopa (syncopation) and paz (peace) as metaphors for collective life: How might we hold tension and release? How do we find the pulse between difference and unity? How can rhythm become a bridge across language\, cultures\, and experiences? \nParticipants will have the chance to build their own instruments — cajóns\, rattles\, drums — and use them in collaborative music-making and dancing that emphasizes connection over perfection. SíncoPaz’s intention is to create a space where finding the beat together and coming into sync is an act of community. \n“Rhythmscape” on Dunham Mall highlights a different rhythm and instructor from our local community each session\, reflecting the many identities that make Pittsfield home. \nRhythmscape is free and open to all and encourages everyone to experience the joy of movement and the beauty of cultural exchange. No experience is necessary to participate. Dunham Mall can be located by entering 100 North Street on your GPS.

SUMMARY:Taste of Ireland
DESCRIPTION:After premiering Off-Broadway last season\, ‘A Taste of Ireland―The Irish Music & Dance Sensation’ returns to stages across the USA in 2025\, performing the show that has entertained thousands around the globe. Laugh\, cry and jig into the night with a production that is Celtic\, for this generation.\nPerformed by former World Irish dance champions\, and featuring dancers from Lord of the Dance and Riverdance\, ‘A Taste of Ireland’ transports the audience through the story of Ireland’s tumultuous history delivered with a pint of Irish wit. Watch world-class performers blend melodic folk mash-ups\, live jaw-dropping acapella tap battles and heartwarming story telling.\nFeaturing revamped classics of Danny Boy\, Tell Me Ma\, Wild Rover\, and many more well known songs\, the show’s reimagined contemporary score blossoms alongside the brash Irish charm of the live dance cast. ‘A Taste of Ireland’ merges cultural traditions\, modern flair\, and craic galore\, to deliver a performance that has been leaving audiences across the globe jigging on their feet for the last decade.\nWith over one hundred and fifty 5-star Facebook reviews\, ‘A Taste of Ireland’ is exactly what it promises: a taste of everything you love about Ireland with a generous helping of more! ’A Taste of Ireland’ is a show with 100% live singing and dancing that bridges the gap between storytelling\, modern Irish dance\, tap and contemporary dance to tell a historic story\, live on stage. With a strictly limited USA run\, see ‘A Taste of Ireland’ this fall for limited performances before it takes off around the globe once again.\n‘Witness the birth of a nation told through rhythm and beat\, with the cry of the Vikings as they were brought to defeat\, the rise and fall of the rebellion the show tells the tale\, trapped were the Irish\, watch them dance from the jail. For the nation fought free from Dundalk to Tralee\, they sing and they dance through the night full of glee. For Ireland\, there was not a nation quite like her\, hold on to your seat\, feel Ireland’s passion and fire.’\n**please note: musical instruments are subject to change from performance to performance

SUMMARY:Peggy Stern & Michael Junkins: Piano & Guitar
DESCRIPTION:An intimate evening of live music with Michael Junkins on guitar and Peggy Stern on piano. Drop in to hear their sound while enjoying the cafe. \nPianist/composer Peggy Stern has never stopped pushing into new stylistic territory. Classically trained (Eastman & New England Conservatory)\, she has adapted to her surroundings by playing everything from modern jazz to salsa to western swing—a signature sound of Austin\, Texas\, where she lives in the winter months. For the past two years\, Peggy has put down summer roots in Pittsfield. \nIn each case\, she has left her personal imprint on the music. Combining her take on jazz\, with the more local styles\, like western swing\, Peggy can be found gigging around town – from restaurants and festivals\, to the local jazz clubs\, most recently at The Red Lion Inn and Bousquet Jazz Festival. Stern has recorded 12 albums in her long career. \n“I like that my music doesn’t really fit into any genre\,” says Stern\, who has never let generic expectations color her approach to the music or the way she plays the piano: “I skipped the roots of jazz. I was not into Charlie Parker\, I wasn’t good at bebop. I came to jazz as a foil for classical music\, so my one clear aim in improvisation has been to sing my own song\, to tell my own truth.” \nWith 4 of her tunes published in The Real Book\, Stern has had much success as a composer\, and as a pianist. She has never let pre-existing conditions dictate to her\, as witness the Wall Street Jazz Festival\, an annual event (2004-2015) in Kingston\, New York that exclusively featured women-led jazz bands. Since moving to Austin\, the festival – renamed LuluFest– continues (2017-2025) to present women-led bands. \nMichael Junkins is a jazz guitarist actively performing throughout the Berkshires. Over the past two decades\, he has had the opportunity to perform with many well-known and talented musicians throughout the Northeast and in Philadelphia. Before relocating to the Berkshires\, Michael lived and worked for a decade in Philadelphia and attributes his time there to the development of his unique and very personal musical style. He is the curator of the Jazz music series in the Lion’s Den of the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge\, and is the Curator of the  “Sounds of Summer” series at the Mount in Lenox. In addition to being a busy performer\, he is a strong advocate for music and the arts within the Berkshire community and is dedicated to the pursuit of celebrating and sustaining Jazz as an art form. \nEvent is FREE
