DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the opening of Mediterranea: American Art from the Graham D. Williford Collection with a talk by Dr. Mark White. \nDr. Mark White specializes in modern and contemporary American art with a particular focus on the Southwest. Exhibition and publication highlights include Picturing Indian Territory\, 1819-1907\, the first art historical survey of the visual culture of the Indian and Oklahoma Territories; Macrocosm/Microcosm: Abstract Expressionism in the American Southwest (2014)\, the first exhibition and publication exploring the influence of mid-century abstraction in this region; and Art Interrupted: Advancing American Art and the Politics of Cultural Diplomacy (2012)\, a reexamination of the influential U.S. State Department exhibition and controversial legacy in American art.  \nMediterranea: American Art from the Graham D. Williford Collection is part of Berkshire Museum’s reopening summer season through the generosity of the Graham D. Williford Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, August 7 at 5 pm\, there will be an Unveiling and Ribbon Cutting for the Let It Shine Community Mural on the AdLib building at 215 North Street. \nCreated in collaboration with Common Wealth Murals\, Mill Town Foundation\, Let It Shine!\, the Pittsfield Public Schools\, and local artists\, students\, and community members\, the large-scale mural reflects the creativity and collective spirit of Pittsfield. The mural was inspired by ideas and artwork from Pittsfield students and was partially painted by community members during the June First Fridays at Five. \nThe ribbon cutting will bring partners and community members together to recognize everyone who helped transform the project from a shared idea into a vibrant new work of public art.

Jim spent 30 years as an art teacher at Herberg Middle School from 1978 to 2008. Currently\, he teaches pottery on the wheel at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts where he has been since 2000. DESCRIPTION:CATA’s Annual Art Show I Am a Part of Art features nearly 300 paintings\, drawings\, sculptures\, photographs\, and more by artists with disabilities from across Berkshire County\, MA and Columbia County\, NY. This vibrant exhibit is on display at two locations: the Clark Art Institute’s Lunder Center at Stone Hill in Williamstown\, MA and the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts in Pittsfield\, MA. \nI Am a Part of Art is the culmination of hundreds of CATA visual arts workshops serving teens\, adults\, and elders with disabilities. DESCRIPTION:Introducing The Darn-Yarns\, a fiber arts club for adults (18+)! The Darn-Yarns will meet every Monday at the Berkshire Athenaeum\, Pittsfield’s Public Library\, from 5-6 pm on the main floor of the library by the Reference Desk. This group includes all kinds of fiber arts\, from crochet and knitting to cross-stitch and embroidery. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhile volunteers will be present to help fiber artists get out of a creative rut or a tough spot\, this program is designed for independent artists\, so please bring your own project. A limited supply of tools and materials will be available in case you forget your needles or crochet hooks at home. \nWe’ll sew… I mean see you there!
